human chauvinism

Human super jingoism and its ugly companion human ethnocentrism are likely to bring about the well-deserved payoff for our species at any moment… what can we do about human chauvinism?

Compare these two statements:

US Capitol Building

The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race…no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye....”

— Statement by the White House, 2011

Now check the next one, made ten years later by a member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee in 2021, when responding to the Pentagon UFO Report, a federally mandated assessment of the UFO threat, published June 25, 2021:

The Defense Department and Intelligence Community have a lot of work to do before we can actually understand whether these aerial threats present a serious national security concern…

aliens here all along

As you know, chauvinism is the irrational belief in the superiority and/or dominance of our own people, who are seen as strong, virtuous, and indestructible, while all the others are considered weak, unworthy or inferior.

In the chauvinism of living organisms, or the chauvinism of an entire taxonomic unit, it is the irrational belief that one’s species ranks higher in genius, survivability, transcendence, and infallibility than all other species. This is a grossly stupid attitude (and therefore irrational) given that many of our species have been destroyed, mutilated or incapacitated by species other than our own… and it’s happening right now (and it probably always has, always will.)

The very idea of human supremacy is grotesquely illogical (if not perversely reckless). We are, almost indisputably, one of the weakest, dumbest, laziest, and dirtiest creatures on this planet and it is only our boastful & delusional pretensions that keep us soldiering on, through thick and thin, kicking and bludgeoning our way across existence, causing blood and destruction as we go. Sometimes I think the only difference between us, the Homo Sapiens, and other great apes, is that we were the ones who received the (undesirable) gift of ego.

Cats don't have leaders

Given that this species has already been brought down by global pandemics before, such as the bubonic plague, the Great Plague, and Spanish flu, you would think we might be more vigilant, conscious and, let’s be honest, completely in awe of nature. We ought to feel a mixture of reverence and respect at the truly unmatched, completely unstoppable and thorough superiority of all things on this planet, but especially those things that are smaller than us, and I mean bacteria and submicroscopic infectious agents.

And yet, when you hear people yelling, “I will no longer wear a mask” and “this will not stop me jetting off on vacation,” you must ask yourself which species is the most intelligent? Is it the ever-evolving SARS-CoV-2 or the morons who said, openly & publicly (this week in Britain) “I finally won’t have to wash my hands anymore… and that’s good, because I’ve had enough of being told what to do.”

We ought to feel a mixture of reverence, respect, and awe…

And, since this is a fantasy-based Myth & Magic post and podcast, I must add that we are talking about a terrestrial species here, one that is found on our own planet and lives in our own dimension, and it’s a life-form that we are familiar with (though, agreed, it is so small it can only be detected with sophisticated electron microscopy. It is 2000 times smaller than a dust mite… and dust mites are barely visible to the human eye!) But imagine if we met dragons? Imagine if we ran into werewolves? Imagine if an alien life form emerged from one of those (many) UAPs that are filling our skies! We would have no chance … no chance at all.

extinct neanderthals

How is human chauvinism to be cured?

One theory about chauvinism is that it is a natural product of society and comes from our earliest origins, when we lived in small tribes, which were little more than extended family groups. Back then, when we were dealing with other tribes (including Neanderthals) it was thought contact might be biologically detrimental, so our ancestors were taught to consider everyone “different to them” as somehow inferior in natural status.

We also learned to work together to hunt and fish for other creatures and this gave us unwarranted confidence in our own abilities (individually we are weak, we can only beat and command other species if we work together) and this is yet another ‘lesson’ we don’t have seem to have picked-up in this global pandemic.

Our exaggerated state of self-importance has not been helped at all by the Holy Bible (and other religious teachings) which suggest that we have been given “dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth…” And that we are made in God’s image…

Zeus Give us Strength

And there is another (less attractive) theory about chauvinism and it’s this: some psychologists suggest chauvinism is an attempt (by some) to drive away the deep feelings of anxiety & shame they harbor privately and perhaps unknowingly… they instinctively know how weak & useless they (actually) are, so redirect these unwanted emotions and feelings outwards, and instead project the hate they feel (for themselves.)

We can hardly change our own minds, much less change the minds of others

Neil Mach

So the chauvinistic mindset doesn’t stand on logic and it’s not rational thinking, so you will never get a chauvinist to change their mind… because (I hate to break it to them) chauvinism is a malady! It’s going to be even more difficult if they’ve chosen to isolate themselves from logical argument and common-sense reasoning and they aren’t looking to change anyway, right? So there is little point in trying to convince them they are wrong. We can hardly change our own minds, much less change the minds of others!

Covid virus

The only way to change a chauvinist’s opinion is to show them they are wrong. But this will be expensive and frustrating —currently, there have been 4.06 million deaths worldwide from Covid, — yet people still deny it exists and people, at least here in Britain, still refuse to wear a mask or wash their hands.

So the ugly truth is that the only way to get chauvinists to change their minds is to touch them with it: touch them with the truth. Actually (scratch that) you’ll need clobber them with the truth, if you want them to see sense.

Chauvinists will have to be sanctioned, if they are to ever believe they are not indestructible. They will have to be sanctioned if they are to understand they are fallible. They will have to be sanctioned if they are to recognize they are inferior.

Zeus, give us strength!
